Differences between Cape Parrots
 and Grey-headed Parrots

Ageing and sexing Cape Parrots by colouration – a quick guide!
Louise Warburton

ADULT birds have RED on their BODIES (forewing and ankle), adult females also have a red forehead.

JUVENILES (male and female) have RED FOREHEADS and NO RED ON BODY.  They lose the red foreheads at 8-9 months of age, when they moult, (now all green!) and by one year old both sexes grow the red feathers on their bodies and the females grow the red forehead back.

See differences relating to Cape Parrot  vs. Grey-headed Parrots.
